ON PERFECTION & CATS | How you move is your business - it's an expression of who you are. Your marvellous body is perfect as is - even if there's pain and trauma. Bless you and your struggle if there is. 🧡🧡🧡
Corrective movement training is quite fashionable these days - I'm into it-ish, if there's a good reason. I’m really good at teaching it and it’s heaps of fun to teach, but for what end? Ease of movement is a decent end to head for. Perfect movement is like teeth whitener. You can do it, but no-one believes it and it hurts if you do it too much. 🍭🍭🍭
I don't think curiosity killed the cat, I reckon perfection did - a subtle slip away from intuition into the land of thought. Take a look at how those beautiful creatures move. Have you ever seen what happens to a cat when you put sticky tape on their bodies?
Sensory dislocation. Paralysis. Stop. It’s not funny.
I reckon over correction, over cuing, too much unnecessary touch, 'now do this', 'now to that‘, ‘breathe now‘, ‘contract your psoas’, is the trainer-client dynamic equivalent of stickytape on a cat. For the Australian’s reading this, It’s not much chop, Mate.

PS. Homeschooling my kids has changed my freaking life - those short people can teach themselves anything in a correctionless, hands-off setting that seeks to understand who they are over what they know or how they perform. ( Yes, they need drills and guidelines and goals too ).
PSS. I’m a trainer, I know some stuff, but I'm here to hold space, support and foster my client’s next self-determined goal. I can’t do that if I don’t know who you are. How you move, by nature, is gonna show me that. As long as there's movement, all’s well. Sprinkle those moves with your own brand of curiosity and intuition and a great, big bag of autonomy and we’re - as they say in business of authentic learning and embodied habit change - in bed with a good chance for growth. 😸😸😸
