Wine and Dine at "Screw It" Bar

January 19, 2020

Melbourne's wine bar scene is expanding into the inner-west at a rate of knots and before you can say, "Red or White?" you'll find that hipster bars are popping up in the most unexpected places (now that Brunswick is the new Fitzroy and Northcote is the new North Fitzroy!)

Clearly, Sunbury then, is the NEW Northcote and we've discoved a cozy wine bar you simply MUST check out before it swarms with eager hipsters!

Have you ever had a day where you just needed to go somewhere with a welcoming atmosphere and when you wanted a glass of wine paired with some delicious cheese? Creating a comfortable, welcoming space is exactly what Raelene (Rae) Matheson focused on establishing when she devised her business plan for the bar.  Rae had a dream since she was twenty-two of opening her own wine bar and in July 2019, she made that dream come true.

Rae (as a hospitality veteran) has a firm grip on her menu and offers some often unexpected pairings that you are going to love.  Having family and friends in the wine industry since a young age, Rae has an extensive background in the winery field. As a passionate owner, she enjoys the challenge of helping customers find new tastes that they will enjoy.

To that end, "Screw It" offers luxurious delicacies such as 'Drunken Plums,' 'Whiskey Cheese' and sometimes features blind tastings from a selection of flavoursome wines.

While I spoke with Rae, she shared that the winery “is about being a mature, sophisticated location where you can have some great wine, cheeses and relax in a friendly environment. It's a place where you can chat and have fun. Life’s too short, you need somewhere you can come to relax and unwind.  Somewhere to bring your first date, to spoil your wife on her birthday, or if you just need a place to unwind.”
